Celebration and Wedding Cake FAQ
What is the quickest way to contact you?
Preferable by telephone but I do check my emails regularly
Every cake is individual and takes a different amount of time to create. There’s time to design it, to bake the cake itself, and of course, lots of time to do the decorations. I usually allow at least a week to get everything sorted out for your individual cake. It’s crucial to book your cake as early as possible.
How much does a cake cost ?
Each cake is individual and priced accordingly. I never give an quote or estimate until I completely understand what our requirements are and have assessed how much work is involved. The prices given are only a guide for cakes made in the past.
My kitchen is in Dundee and I serve Tayside, Perthsire and Angus in Scotland, UK
I find that most customers like to pick up their own celebration cakes. Cakes are boxed and packed for careful transportation. Keep the box low down in your car, and pack the box with a blanket to stop it rolling across the floor or boot.
However, I can deliver celebration cakes locally by arrangement.
Wedding cakes are personally delivered and set-up for you by Cakes By Stacey.
What information do you need to help design the cake I want ?
I will discuss what you want to have and what or who it’s for. As each cake is individual this is an essential phase.
If you’re stuck for ideas then we have inspiration in our portfolio and cake guides which can be adjusted to suit any theme you may have.
I’ll need to know when you want the cake - to make sure there’s enough time available and how many people are you are feeding to provide all those portions, generally the smaller you cut the pieces, the more people get a nibble, though.
Do you bake your own cakes?
I bake every cake. I put a lot of care and attention round my baking and It’s important to me that your cake tastes as good as it looks.
Can I mix the flavours of my wedding cake?
The flavours of each tier of your wedding cake can be a different
How long before the wedding is the cake prepared?
If your cake is fruit then I bake ahead, depending on when the order is placed. The fruitcake requires regular feeding and maturing.
If your wedding cake is sponge then I bake these the week of the wedding.
Chocolate and Madiera recipes do not contain nuts, however, the cakes are made in a kitchen that definitely does use nuts regularly. The cakes should not be served to anyone with a nut allergy
Also: The following allergens are included as an ingredient in your cake:
Flour, Gluten, Milk, Eggs.
These allergens are NOT included as an ingredient in your cake.
Although I do not use these in my kitchen, I cannot be sure that your cake does not contain a trace of:
Soya, Sesame seeds, Celery, Sulphur dioxide, Mustard, Shellfish, fish.
How long will my cake keep for?
Keep it in a cool place, away from direct sun light.
DO NOT put cake in the fridge or freezer
Once cut store in an air tight container or cover cut sides with cling film
A sponge cake is best eaten within 5 days
Can I keep the decoration?
The decorations are all made from sugar paste icing - so if they don’t get eaten they can be kept with a little care:
keep them dry and dust free, they are very delicate
a few days in an airing cupboard is a good idea to make sure they are absolutely dry
once they are dry you can varnish them with clear nail varnish - don't forget there bottoms too!
Cakes decorated with Non Edible Items
There may be items decorating the cake which are not edible. This may include Pillars, Wires, Plastic flower holders, Dowels, Ribbon,
Please be certain they are removed before cutting the cake and eating it.
If you are not cutting the cake yourself, please pass this information on to the person concerned.
Can I have fresh flowers in my design?
If you would like to include fresh flowers in your design, then I suggest you discuss this with your florist. I can liase with your appointed florist and am happy to complete the decoration of the cake at your venue with fresh flowers if they are to be included in the design.
