Celebration and Wedding Cake FAQ
What is the quickest way to contact you?
Preferable by telephone but I do check my emails regularly
Every cake is individual and takes a different amount of time to create. There’s time to design it, to bake the cake itself, and of course, lots of time to do the decorations. I usually allow at least a week to get everything sorted out for your individual cake. It’s crucial to book your cake as early as possible.
How much does a cake cost ?
Each cake is individual and priced accordingly. I never give an quote or estimate until I completely understand what our requirements are and have assessed how much work is involved. The prices given are only a guide for cakes made in the past.
My kitchen is in Dundee and I serve Tayside, Perthsire and Angus in Scotland, UK
I find that most customers like to pick up their own celebration cakes. Cakes are boxed and packed for careful transportation. Keep the box low down in your car, and pack the box with a blanket to stop it rolling across the floor or boot.
However, I can deliver celebration cakes locally by arrangement.
Wedding cakes are personally delivered and set-up for you by Cakes By Stacey.
What information do you need to help design the cake I want ?
I will discuss what you want to have created and what or who it’s for. As each cake is individual this is an essential phase.
If you’re stuck for ideas then we can either design something new or you can choose a design from our portfolio. If you decide to choose a design from our portfolio we can, if you desire, change colours and flowers to compliment any theme that you may be having at your celebration.
I’ll need to know when you want the cake - to make sure there’s enough time available to devote to creating the perfect cake for you, and how many people are you feeding. Remember, if you are feeding more people than a single cake will cater for I will happily make you additional “cutting cakes’ with matching icing, just right to provide all those extra portions.
Generally the smaller you cut the pieces, the more people get a nibble, though.
Do you bake your own cakes?
Yes. Every cake is baked on our premises. We put a lot of love into them!
It’s so important to you and me that your cake tastes as good as it looks.
Can I mix the flavours of my wedding cake?
Of course. Each tier of your wedding cake can be a different flavour
How long before our wedding is the cake prepared?
If your wedding cake is a fruitcake then we will bake them as far in advance as possible depending on when the order is placed. The fruitcake needs regular feeding and maturing with brandy. If your wedding cake is sponge then we will bake these the week of the wedding.
Chocolate and Madiera recipes do not contain nuts, however, the cakes are made in a kitchen that definitely does use nuts regularly. The cakes should not be served to anyone with a nut allergy
Also: The following allergens are included as an ingredient in your cake:
Flour, Gluten, Milk, Eggs.
These allergens are NOT included as an ingredient in your cake.
Although I do not use these in my kitchen, I cannot be sure that your cake does not contain a trace of:
Soya, Sesame seeds, Celery, Sulphur dioxide, Mustard, Shellfish, fish.
How long will my cake keep for?
Keep it in a cool place, away from direct sun light.
DO NOT put cake in the fridge or freezer
Once cut store in an air tight container or cover cut sides with cling film
A sponge cake is best eaten within 5 days
Can I keep the decoration?
The decorations are all made from sugar paste icing - so if they don’t get eaten they can be kept with a little care:
keep them dry and dust free, they are very delicate
a few days in an airing cupboard is a good idea to make sure they are absolutely dry
once they are dry you can varnish them with clear nail varnish - don't forget there bottoms too!
Cakes decorated with Non Edible Items
There may be items decorating the cake which are not edible. This may include Pillars, Wires, Plastic flower holders, Dowels, Ribbon,
Please be certain they are removed before cutting the cake and eating it.
If you are not cutting the cake yourself, please pass this information on to the person concerned.
Can I have fresh flowers in my design?
If your cake design requires fresh flowers, your florist will supply these. We can liase directly with your florist regarding the specific floral requirements and we will decorate the cake with the flowers on site.NB. Please note some flowers are not suitable for use as a cake decoration. Ask your florist for details regarding toxicity. We cannot be liable for any contamination to our food product that may arise from their misuse.
